Arrival in Auckland

by Louis Sylvio 21 August 2019 in Travel Overseas NZ August 2019

The plane landed at Auckland International Airport at 5:25am and after collecting my luggage, I took a pre-booked shuttle to Beni and Roland's home.

I arrived at the house just after 7 and Roland was still asleep. Marcel greeted me and I was pleased to see him again after our last contact in Japan. Beni was very happy for me to have made the effort to come to visit them. She looked very sad and tired.

Marcel took me to see Roland and we both got very emotional and I could not control the tears. He looked thin and years older than the last time I saw him a few months ago. After a big cuddle, he went back to bed and just talked for over an hour explaining the effect of the Chemo on his system. I just listened. I think the outcome took a big load off his shoulder.

There were some good news. A few days ago, he was yellow due to the failure of his liver but manage to recover very well. Stopping the Chemo treatment was absolutely the right decision. The damage to his body is very apparent. Result from the latest scan showed that the cancer is still active but there was no tumour in the liver. That was some good news.

We had breakfast and the day was just relaxing and chatting.

Both Beni and Roland are very sick. I don't know how they cope with the daily traumas. Very sad.
